Washed clean! The degree as to just how clean, is only fully understood over the days following the resurrection.
The blood shed on the dust of the prison courtyard, on the Via Dolorosa and that dripped onto a patch of earth below the cross on Golgotha, is a brutal graphic reminder of what took place.
Yet, it was what followed that showed us how necessary it was.
Whilst we should react in shame to such a necessity, we are instead blessed by the cleansing action of His empty grave and His continued presence amongst us.
Whilst the angry cries of the men, women and soldiers gathered for His trial and crucifixion should have drowned out everything, it was His whispers through an empty grave that washed over me and His Grace that continues to whisper on every Emmaus road I travel so that I may return from each journey and say, “He Lives”!
“I have seen my Lord and He lives; I know my Lord and I am cleansed.”
