In true African tradition, the Clivias of our wilderness are Spring’s ‘Praise Singers’.

With creation’s garden bursting out in colourful praise, spring is shouted out from open-mouthed blossoms, and we awaken to the knowledge that summer’s sun is just around the corner.

Myriads of blossoms are eager to announce spring’s arrival as they jostle for position to bask in the early morning light. Their rainbow hues are enough to send ripples of joy through the hearts of God’s gardeners, gladdening souls and bringing warmth into winter’s lingering cold.

Floral praise singers, remind us just how much the whispers that we echo reveal His Glory and broadcast to the world the presence of the Trinity in the wilderness of our existence to all and sundry.

And so, with faces turned towards the heavens, let us cry out praises to the glory of God and walk before Him as testimonials to His Grace.

Glory to God in the Highest!

There is no why!

With the Trinity, there is only a now, and in the now is the knowledge there is hope and love.

If we are to shed a tear for the why, then it is for the past and we deny ourselves of a now and the possibility of a tomorrow.

It is in the now and the tomorrow that we have a relationship with Him.

We can experience fellowship when we grasp a flower or when we pause to listen to the light-hearted twittering of the birds. We find the Trinity in the butterfly, where with folded wings it sups on nature’s nectar.

When we become embedded with God in the now, we are spiritually opened to let His whispers permeate every pore and the Holy Spirit’s breath fuels the fires of our hope.

There is no faith in the why!

As we bend to cradle a blossom in the now, we give ourselves over to the knowledge that His Grace is enough and His simplicity is all that we require.

Amen.

A garden, as a reflection of creation’s glory, should be enjoyed at a leisurely pace.

This is our ‘taking time out to smell the roses’ especially when the ‘roses’ are the Trinity! Fellowship with Him requires time; quiet time and quality time.

We can never really get to know our Lord without spending time with Him. Within the gardens of creation, we need to seek out the moss-covered pathways and rest on soft, green-cushioned rocks that are the seats less sat on, as we embark on the traverses of our faith.

Here, we find the time to delve deeper, and deeper still into our relationship.

Here, we begin to become aware of the nuances between the leaves and the blossoms in their tiniest form. When we can hear the whisper of a dew drop as it runs down the stalk, then when are that much closer to hearing Him.

Searching for Him is a journey led by the Holy Spirit, and when we allow it, takes us to places seldom seen. He leads us to a perspective that goes far deeper than the superficial beauty of a garden seen from afar. Through Him, we are introduced to a sense of simplicity, and a stillness of inner peace.

Find your ‘road less travelled’ where you can be undisturbed with the Holy Spirit. Somewhere where the moss beckons and its softness is a pillow of rest from the turmoil. Our Lord is present in the forest of moss spikes, He waits to meet you there.

There are many roads in the garden of my wilderness.

Each is lined with the lessons of His creation and whilst the lessons may be seen through the seasons of our existence, they all bear the same two characteristics.

They are all a journey with Christ and at the same time, a search for Him.

Daily we travel up the Via Dolorosa, yet we struggle to feel the depth of the pain and the loneliness of abandonment. Through His Word, we experience the confirmation of the Emmaus Road and then on the road to Damascus, we see the full power of the Holy Spirit at work.

As the scales we acquire in life slowly open, the splendour of the fire-infused inflorescence bursts into the world, and suddenly the wilderness is alive with the whispers of creation’s creatures as they feast on its fruits and testify to the existence of the Trinity.

Of all the roads we traverse on our journey of faith, it is on the Damascus highway that the Spirit opens a whole new world to us. It is here the explosion of testimony bursts onto the world stage. This is the flame of the Apostles’ Holy Spirit. We are part of this. We need to be part of this!

Indwelt by the Spirit, we will be filled to overflowing. Let it out. The source will keep replenishing our supply with the energy of youthfulness that lasts into eternity.

There is no end to it. Hallelujah, Amen.

Fridayfootprints – Friday 9th June 2023

As we tread with gentle footsteps through the autumn leaves of the gospel in the garden so the flowers of our being slowly perish until only the Holy Spirit is left coursing our veins.

To walk softly with the Lord is to let the whispers of the Holy Spirit slowly permeate every fibre, pore and cell of our bodies until only His Spirit remains.

Within God’s Garden, the journey of our footsteps carefully scans through the pages of the seasons of our faith. To bring His garden into full bloom, we must spend time amongst the weeds. Clearing ground, preparing the soil, and planting seeds that will be the promise of floral glory for the seasons to come.

With the power of the Holy Spirit flowing within us, His indwelling gives us the impetus to reach gardens from around the world until His pollen dust covers the earth.

Feel His lifeblood pumping through your veins and Praise Him!

His invitation is always for us to join Him in the hospitality of His presence.

We are welcomed into His creation to partake in a fellowship with HIm. We are called into this spiritual connection where His nature beckons and with whispered words, He fills our wilderness until all uncertainty is banished.

We cannot but see His hand in all that creation is. It is impossible not to query whose mightiness is responsible for the miracle of life around us in all its forms.

Here nestled in Eden we can experience first-hand His open arms and comforting aura as step by step we traverse through His garden and dwell in stillness before Him. We are blessed with signs and wonders everywhere we look, and with each and every glance, we are reminded that He is near.

In my wilderness, His creatures share in the hospitality of His communion Bread Tree and the wine of the well, toasting the presence of the Trinity of Grace and graciousness.

Fridayfootprints – Friday 24th March 2023

Stillness!

A search for a state where I become still enough for creation’s nature to become one with me and that I may become one with creation.

A place where my mind can connect with the very nature of the Trinity, and I can journey to the recesses of my soul. And there, to bow before my Lord as I reach to fill my bowl from the waters of my baptism.

Striving to be still is, in itself, an abandonment of calm. There should be no striving in it. To be still is to come before the Lord and wait. To open our minds and body to receive Him!

When the lichen begins to grow on creation’s surface, stillness has been achieved When only the sound of His whispers in the wilderness are heard, then the baptismal font is overflowing and the Holy Spirit’s anointing shines on the face of our faith.

Lord, grant that my search for stillness never ends and our fellowship deepens in the garden of your creation.

Fridayfootprints – Friday 27th January 2023

That one furtive backward glance that beckons us!

Are you coming?

Are you ready to enter a world where creation exists?

A Knysna Loerie (Tauraco corythaix), the bird of my logo and the bird that calls me to explore a world, …. a realm of a different nature. Sometimes noisy, but also cute with its soft purr-like conversation and mannerisms. The magnificent colours of its winged flight entice us deeper into the forest: Come follow me, the purple calls. Quick! The green cries out.

And I follow!

Wilderness Whispers are the words I find along the way. A spiritual journey along the pathways of creation’s garden. It is my prayer world and my inspiration. It is my solace and my repentance.

Through nature, we are led into a deeper understanding of ourselves and of God. It is the cathedral of our soul, ready and decked out for prayer, praise and worship. Its branches enfold us in a heavenly hug and our tears are absorbed into the earth to give life to others.

‘Are you coming?’ is the whispered question of the Trinity as they singularly want to lead us on a path to salvation.

Are you coming?

Yes Lord, I’m here! And my soul soars on the footprints of His wings and takes flight.

#fridayfootprints – Friday 14th October 2022

Creation’s Trinity surrounds us wherever we may seek it. It is there to reveal all His Glory.

As in a book, we turn the garden’s pages of a floral revelation as He is fully exposed to our senses.

The double red for the sacrifice and Passion of the Christ.

The glistening white of the Holy Spirit as He blesses us in His baptism as it brings us to a new life in Him.

Blended, they are formed from the gentlest colours of God, the soft balance of the delicate cloak of Grace gifted to us by God mixed from the shades of sacrifice and rebirth.

Three colours from the same form, resplendent in their royal blue heaven. Three forms that glorify Him in all creation. Three blossoms that bring the Peace of our Lord to fruition as we walk through botanical perfection in fellowship with Him.

Three, the trinitarian promise of fullness that whispers to us:

“May the love of the Lord Jesus Christ, the grace of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”

In the simpleness of faith is the freedom of His truth that we may revel in His Glory for all eternity if we call Him Lord and turn to Him for our salvation.

Amen

#fridayfootprints – Friday 31st December 2021

The final hours of 2021 tread their weary step out from the annuals of our existence and everything we see in the gardens of creation start to remind us of the graphic form of a pandemic virus. And as we name successive waves of variants with Greek letters, we should be reminded of He who was the author of creation: The Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.

As we prepare to see out the old year and welcome in a renewed life with the year to come, it is time to reflect on the fundamentals of our rebirth and the Holy Spirit as our indwelling guide.

Our internal soul-walk into the new year is a time of meditational preparation with the Trinity in a spiritual fellowship of connection through every part of our being. It is our ballet dance, our orchestra and our mass choir; that within us connects at a level to move the mountains of our burdens, heaps praise on the new born Christ, and gifts us a souls-song that we reserve for His ears alone.

As the sun sets on the wilderness’ of 2021, new whispers lie in wait for the year to come. May you find the time to bring a closing peace to the year and may you be blessed as “your soul glorifies the Lord and your spirit rejoices in God your Saviour. – He is mindful of the humble state of His servants” (Luke 1:46-48)

Amen
