When the darkness threatens to overwhelm us and the waters of our baptism have been reduced to the faintest of mists – There is still light.

In the empty hallways of our grieving souls – a light still shines.

When pain silences all sound around us – light still exists in the faintest of His whispers.

In any teardrop that runs down our cheek – there is still a reflection of the simplest form of light; the soul.

Somewhere, somehow, we have to find that light and hold on to it with all our remaining strength. And when we feel that our grip is about to slip, we should recall one sentence of our baptism of faith.

“I trust in the Lord and I believe.” The two are inextricably linked. We cannot do one without the other. This is not an inconvenience but a fundamental concept of our initiation into the realm of God. When All we can see is darkness, we know that His Light exists. And if we know that His Light exists then we trust that He will lead us from the darkness walking by our side every inch of the way.

And then when the shadows start to lengthen behind us as we draw closer to Him, His light will start to reflect onto those brought in fellowship with us. Amen. John 1:1 – 14.
