The call of the wild is a call to reflect! It is the softest, gentlest, beckoning sound that targets the soul of mankind.

From the Fish Eagle’s cry, honking Hippos, and the leopard as he ‘saws’ his way through the undergrowth, all have their heart-wrenching sound. And there are other sounds whose vibrations are more difficult to detect. Sunspots that dance on the water to an unwritten tune or the whisker twitching of the field mouse.

These are the sounds that seek to entice man closer to our Creator!

In it all is the voice of God: “Come Closer” – Know Me; Reflect! And in our reflection, to discover repentance!

Creation’s call of the wild can be as simple as a weed growing in the sidewalk concrete, a flowerpot on a desk, a garden, the herds that roam the savannah, or the eagles that own the sky. They are all the same.

If we allow the call of the wild to find its way inside us and take hold, we will see our sin. Repentance will find peace within us. A peace that comes from allowing ourselves to hear Him and to know why He sent His son. That touches our soul, and we will never get enough of Him.

Advent: The call of the wild – He comes!

Fridayfootprints – Friday 24th November 2023

The anticipation of Advent is to catch a glimpse of Grace in the chalice of Holiness.

His presence is eternal and through the cycle of our worship, we can celebrate the promise of His coming and the chance to welcome Him into our wilderness.

The expectation that out of His birth, would come peace to all mankind is something that the world so sorely needs. To catch just a glimpse of His Grace through the shadows of war that darken the hearts of the world we must look for the chalice of holiness.

If we are not in search of the chalice, there can be no chance of Grace. And if we are in search of the chalice, then no other activity or conflict would matter.

As such Peace and Grace go hand in hand!

And the hands of the star that rises in the east hold the chalice of holiness. He is Coming!

One glimpse of nature is to see praise pour out from creation’s choir!

Creation cannot but praise its creator. It sets the example and leads the way for humanity to follow.

These are the lessons to be found in the whispers, sights and sounds that abound in the wildernesses of our journey. As we let our footsteps follow the paths in nature, we are accompanied by creation and the Holy Spirit reveals the majesty of God’s works around us.

This is our inspiration. Our stimulus to burst into praise and glorify Him for the bounty that surrounds us.

May our souls be so filled with joy through our fellowship with Him that our mouths are opened in full voice as platelets of praise pour out.

Focus on Faith

Staying focused on the simplicity of faith is to cut out all the white noise that surrounds us.

The temptation to overcomplicate our faith is to allow our field of vision to wander and we lose sight of just how simple our faith should be.

Like buds on a stem, each element of our faith slowly unfolds, one after another.

The slow reveal, whisper upon whisper, one promise followed by the next, as word by word the gospel of the garden is revealed.

Creation’s testimony to Him. A “Hymn to Him” is sung by choirs from the treetops as the beat and rhythm of our faith waft away the morning mist and the pathways for our footsteps are readied for the journey.

One bud at a time. One word, one gospel written in the footprints of disciples bound by the simplicity of His Way and His Truth.

27th October 2023

A soul-filling moment …!

An experience where all your spiritual stars are aligned and then without expectation, there is that supreme burst of joy that fills every cell of your body and leaves your heart tingling with indescribable peace and happiness.

Perhaps this is a St Francis moment?

A time when creation, through nature’s creatures, comes to take communion with our souls!

To experience the closeness of nature is to feel God as butterfly wings teasing the core of our existence.

To be in close proximity to the innocence of creation in its sights and sounds is to hear Him as His whispers flit through the hairs on our arms and the back of our neck.

The quick intake of breath at the sheer surprise of His presence, and the furtive glances just to check that we really are alone, as His eyes pierce through to see all that we are.

In the gardens of our wilderness, we find Him. Seek Him out in nature’s playground! Partake in the bounty of His Grace and His Harvest and in return, share from the abundance we have been blessed with. Praise Him Hallelujah!

There is a garden in our soul.

A place where blossoms bloom, birds flit amongst the branches and nature’s chorus greets the day.

In the centre of the garden stands a tree. Instead of bearing forbidden fruit, this tree has a fruit of a different nature.

Our garden is to be found at the base of this tree. An Eden in our wilderness. On its outstretched arms are the fruits of salvation, redemption, grace and forgiveness. The tree towers over a garden dressed in the full splendour of His covenant colours.

Our tears shed at the base of this tree are not of sorrow or anguish, but of exuberant praise where the garden in our souls is irrigated into eternity with rivered tears of joy. We join with the tree with outstretched arms and sing songs for angels’ ears.

In our Eden Garden, we walk on the paths where leaf-littered waters of our baptism lead us through the leaves of the gospel as each step echoes with the ripples of the whispered words of faith, hope and love.

Reaching out ….

Arms wide open and hands held high we seek Him.

The route to our soul is through words depicted by our arms and hands.

Acceptance; surrender; pleading; welcoming; embracing!

In the wilderness of our earthly journey, through the actions of our arms and hands, we invite Him to enter a fellowship with us.

Although we feel lost in a world at war with itself, disillusioned with the power and greed that has sucked the life out of our earthly habitation, He is still there just waiting for us to open our arms and welcome Him in.

The invitation is ours to make. That final surrender that says ‘I am Yours’! A gate that is flung wide so that the Holy Spirit can rush right in to fill all the voids that humanity has created in us.

Then with arms wide open and hands raised higher still, we burst forth in glorious praise – not because we have been accepted but from the gift of eternity bestowed on us by Him.

Invite Him in!

Amongst the dead and the dying shines a blossom of our holiness.

And at its core, we discover the golden filaments of faith, hope and love

It is in the gardens of our wilderness that we seek Him. In the darkness, we search for His light, and having found it, we are enveloped by His whispers as a source of comfort and fellowship.

It is through His word that creation comes alive and God is seen in everything and everything begins to see Him. On this mystical journey, even when the light is surrounded by darkness, there are footsteps of faith we tread down the paths of His garden.

I find my solace in this dappled sunlight and experience all the emotions of my faith as I bend to cradle this single flower. From the joy of nature’s song, my soul soars with its choir and this mystic realm with its flowing amoebic form of time and space brings hope out of the darkness and the Holy Spirit  bursts forth from the golden core of light.

The veins of faith flow towards the heart of holiness.

From the capillaries of Christianity to the arteries of salvation, our baptism through Him and in Him was initiated at the birth of creation.

It is the blood of Christ’s Passion that courses through our veins as pathways to the centre of holiness.

To become still in His presence and to feel Him around us is to be able to hear His whispers in the sounds of air as it moves surrounding us in a comforting aura of mysticism. If we can see the smallest detail of His making, then we should be able to feel Him as He caresses us with His presence.

It is when we become still enough to hear Him and to feel Him, then we can start to feel His blood within us. It is this blood that feeds not only our heart but also our soul.

And when we soul search for Him at the heart of creation, then His holiness is part of us, and our blood is His and His blood is ours!

Hallelujah. Amen!

Fridayfootprints – Friday 15th September 2023

Through dappled sunlight and nature’s shadows, my spiritual footsteps follow a mystical path to the temple of my soul.

Worship and prayer flow in the gentle breeze of a spring morning as my singing heart swells to the whispers of His words and joyful praise bursts forth.

In fellowship with creation, the core of my faith lies entrenched in my soul as a temple that I visit at will for prayer, sacrifice and praise. It is nature’s glorious bounty that graces the wilderness of my existence, filling me with awe at the extent of the miracle that I become part of every time I step into His presence.

To walk in His garden is a mystical journey. We become aware of the gentle nudges of the Holy Spirit as we soul-seek through life. Angels glimpsed through speckled sunspots dispel shadows of seasons passed as we discover the comfort we seek at crossroaded paths. Like butterflies, they lead us to the nectar pools ringed by salvation’s sentries. Then joined, we sing in trumpet-mouthed joy to the glory of His name. Amen
