Fridayfootprints – Friday 8th December 2023

The call of the wild is a call to reflect! It is the softest, gentlest, beckoning sound that targets the soul of mankind.

From the Fish Eagle’s cry, honking Hippos, and the leopard as he ‘saws’ his way through the undergrowth, all have their heart-wrenching sound. And there are other sounds whose vibrations are more difficult to detect. Sunspots that dance on the water to an unwritten tune or the whisker twitching of the field mouse.

These are the sounds that seek to entice man closer to our Creator!

In it all is the voice of God: “Come Closer” – Know Me; Reflect! And in our reflection, to discover repentance!

Creation’s call of the wild can be as simple as a weed growing in the sidewalk concrete, a flowerpot on a desk, a garden, the herds that roam the savannah, or the eagles that own the sky. They are all the same.

If we allow the call of the wild to find its way inside us and take hold, we will see our sin. Repentance will find peace within us. A peace that comes from allowing ourselves to hear Him and to know why He sent His son. That touches our soul, and we will never get enough of Him.

Advent: The call of the wild – He comes!

Fridayfootprints – Friday 1st December 2023

Lord, be my guide in the wilderness when my footsteps falter on my journey through the pathways to heaven.

Be my handrail over rocky ground, my staff through flowing streams and my light in the darkness of the forest.

Be my shelter from the midday heat and storms. A cave where lightning strikes cannot enter and in my search for calming words, let not the crashing thunder drown out your voice.

In the morning mists when nature’s sounds are muted, I feel your nearness like a dewdrop running down a leaf and, in the cords, played by the wind on the spider’s web I hear the Holy Spirit speak.

Hold my soul, Lord; mould me to fit into your mystic realm that stretches further than my imagination can comprehend as I await your coming.

May your Peace flow like a waterfall of plumed angels cascading from the mouth of creation and bathe me in your Glory, now and forever,

Amen.

The anticipation of Advent is to catch a glimpse of Grace in the chalice of Holiness.

His presence is eternal and through the cycle of our worship, we can celebrate the promise of His coming and the chance to welcome Him into our wilderness.

The expectation that out of His birth, would come peace to all mankind is something that the world so sorely needs. To catch just a glimpse of His Grace through the shadows of war that darken the hearts of the world we must look for the chalice of holiness.

If we are not in search of the chalice, there can be no chance of Grace. And if we are in search of the chalice, then no other activity or conflict would matter.

As such Peace and Grace go hand in hand!

And the hands of the star that rises in the east hold the chalice of holiness. He is Coming!

Focus on Faith

Staying focused on the simplicity of faith is to cut out all the white noise that surrounds us.

The temptation to overcomplicate our faith is to allow our field of vision to wander and we lose sight of just how simple our faith should be.

Like buds on a stem, each element of our faith slowly unfolds, one after another.

The slow reveal, whisper upon whisper, one promise followed by the next, as word by word the gospel of the garden is revealed.

Creation’s testimony to Him. A “Hymn to Him” is sung by choirs from the treetops as the beat and rhythm of our faith waft away the morning mist and the pathways for our footsteps are readied for the journey.

One bud at a time. One word, one gospel written in the footprints of disciples bound by the simplicity of His Way and His Truth.

Amongst the dead and the dying shines a blossom of our holiness.

And at its core, we discover the golden filaments of faith, hope and love

It is in the gardens of our wilderness that we seek Him. In the darkness, we search for His light, and having found it, we are enveloped by His whispers as a source of comfort and fellowship.

It is through His word that creation comes alive and God is seen in everything and everything begins to see Him. On this mystical journey, even when the light is surrounded by darkness, there are footsteps of faith we tread down the paths of His garden.

I find my solace in this dappled sunlight and experience all the emotions of my faith as I bend to cradle this single flower. From the joy of nature’s song, my soul soars with its choir and this mystic realm with its flowing amoebic form of time and space brings hope out of the darkness and the Holy Spirit  bursts forth from the golden core of light.

Fridayfootprints – Friday 22nd September 2023

The veins of faith flow towards the heart of holiness.

From the capillaries of Christianity to the arteries of salvation, our baptism through Him and in Him was initiated at the birth of creation.

It is the blood of Christ’s Passion that courses through our veins as pathways to the centre of holiness.

To become still in His presence and to feel Him around us is to be able to hear His whispers in the sounds of air as it moves surrounding us in a comforting aura of mysticism. If we can see the smallest detail of His making, then we should be able to feel Him as He caresses us with His presence.

It is when we become still enough to hear Him and to feel Him, then we can start to feel His blood within us. It is this blood that feeds not only our heart but also our soul.

And when we soul search for Him at the heart of creation, then His holiness is part of us, and our blood is His and His blood is ours!

Hallelujah. Amen!

In true African tradition, the Clivias of our wilderness are Spring’s ‘Praise Singers’.

With creation’s garden bursting out in colourful praise, spring is shouted out from open-mouthed blossoms, and we awaken to the knowledge that summer’s sun is just around the corner.

Myriads of blossoms are eager to announce spring’s arrival as they jostle for position to bask in the early morning light. Their rainbow hues are enough to send ripples of joy through the hearts of God’s gardeners, gladdening souls and bringing warmth into winter’s lingering cold.

Floral praise singers, remind us just how much the whispers that we echo reveal His Glory and broadcast to the world the presence of the Trinity in the wilderness of our existence to all and sundry.

And so, with faces turned towards the heavens, let us cry out praises to the glory of God and walk before Him as testimonials to His Grace.

Glory to God in the Highest!

Fridayfootprints – Friday 1st September 2023

Footprints through the gardens of Creation are a history of our journey in pursuit of whispers that float as the Spirit weaves His way on angels’ wings through the wilderness of our existence.

Whispers that are the tongues of testimony!

Gold-laced words that burst forth from the mouths of blossoms sustaining a myriad of creatures and systems that prevent the world from collapsing in on itself.

They are His whispers, echoes of His nature that we observe as we are exposed to His Kingdom.

We can spread its testimony with the sweetest pollen-laden words, built into phrases and sentences until we become the authors of His gospel within us.

And when His word is in us, we are in Him and become one with His creation where our tongues of testimony give rise to voices of praise covering the land with a gold-dusted promise of Grace and salvation.

May the tongues of testimony speak to the world.

Fridayfootptints – Friday 25th August 2023

Creation gifts us bouquets of fragrances and colours.

We see a world where leaf-painted paths lead us through gardens where blossoms blend with sound bites and textures to proclaim, as praise singers, the glory of God.

No matter the season, the Trinity is forever present in the sights and sounds of nature. Its testimony to the ‘Master Gardener’ is written in the vibrant words of the corsage handed to us every time we step outdoors.

These are the whispers that are painted on the canvas of our testimony. Each plucked flower becomes a gospel in a vase that we can take with us to magnify His Glory within the walls of our homes. Here, the fragrances fill rooms and our senses come alive to wafts of the Spirit that clothe us in the soul-sounds of His Grace.

These are our winter’s blanket or summer’s shade. It is in colour’s comfort that we see the ‘Be not afraid …’ and that we find peace enough to declare Him King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Creator of all creation!

Amen.

When two or more ….

We can gaze at nature and be enveloped by the simple beauty that exists around us.

And the longer we look and the more attentive we become, the sheer majesty and miracle of existence must be the dominant thought in our minds.

Yet, just how often do we get to spend the time or pass more than a perfunctory glimpse at the world around us.

And yes, sometimes our faith is like that! If we were to take the time, we would begin to pick out at least some of the detail that creation gives to our faith.

His Word is echoed in the whispers of nature, waiting in anxious anticipation to be discovered. Spending time with the Lord turns our faith into a journey of magical revelation. Spending time with Him and nature is an explosion of Spiritual Fellowship that moves the hardened heart and sets free the soul to converse with angels.

When two or more … is the story of this fellowship and a chance to explore the depths of our relationship with Him, when all He asks is that we devote our attention to Him until we are one with the Trinity who is one with us.

Amen.
