One Day!

Yesterday, today or tomorrow.

Yesterday is finished, gone, done for! We should learn from it, but to spend countless hours in mourning over what has passed has a profound impact on the other two days: Today and tomorrow. By spending time on yesterday we never allow ‘today’ to take place. And if today doesn’t fit into our lives, then we side-line the Trinity and our relationship with Him.

Likewise, tomorrow. If we do not have today, then there is no tomorrow! We can plan for the future at a human level, but we cannot live in the future on a spiritual level. And if we fixate on the future, we are excluding the essence of our existence with the Holy Spirit from ‘today’.

As we prepare to celebrate the second Sunday of Advent, we cannot achieve future Peace if we are not acting for peace today. We cannot talk or believe in a Heaven and salvation of tomorrow if we are not experiencing it today.

His whispers are meant for today. They are His guidance, comfort and love for this moment. And just as the Day Lily blossom graces our garden in full splendour for just one day – it is a day full of the beauty of His creation. In His Grace it will be a new bloom when morning comes again, yet it will not mourn at yesterday’s shrivelled petals, knowing that it lived for its day in praise and worship.

Lord, thank you for the blessing of today. Amen!
