#fridayfootprints – Friday 24th December 2021

“Unto us” is the reflection of the promises of prophets that reverberate in the whispers of His Word and are formulated in the innermost search of our souls as a quest for a Saviour and then cast out into the sea of humanity as we each seek a star, guided by heaven to a place of ultimate peace.

This year has seen many feathers on the doorstep. The most recent gift, a beautiful nest – empty, and gently deposited at the front door. It was food for prayer and meditation. The workings of the spirit in the discovery of the nest, its soft delicate feel, so obviously nurturing, sparked a train of thought that amplified the message of Christmas.

“Unto us ..” not unto me. Not unto a particular group, culture or society – “unto us” a collective, a world, a humanity in crisis. Unto us, was about going out from the nest – a view of Christ from birth through the years to maturity. A view that we are called upon to share. The nest is there so that we can return each year to a reminder that the miracle birth is an event to be broadcast far and wide. A chance for us to be the Bethlehem star.

We cannot separate the child being born from the ‘unto us’ without knowing that the unto us is all of us. If there is never an ‘us’ there is no need for the nest and the miracle it cradled and nurtured!

May your Christmas be filled with the peace of His whispers as He guides you into a fellowship with the ‘Us’ of the world carrying the message of a miracle birth and may the gift we have received through the power of the Holy Spirit fill us with purpose. Amen.

Patiently we wait, recognising that the steadily swelling blossoms are about to deliver the long-anticipated birth of splendour.

The preparation for this moment may have been long and arduous, but the promise: Oh, how we live for the promise.

As gardeners and Christians, the parallels in life and faith are intertwined in creation. We know the story by heart and we live through the chapters year after year and even when the ending is filled with pain and tragedy, still we wait patiently for the birthing. Time spent in fellowship with Him are the lifeblood of our existence and Advent is the chance to renew that connection for another year.

As we go into the final days, the pregnant ‘blossoms-in-waiting’ stress the final moments in the build up to the birth of our salvation. Like children we cannot hide the excitement of the final days. If we do, it threatens the rest of the storyline into becoming just another event to ignore in our crowded lives. And with that He is condemned to exist beyond the boundaries of our wilderness’.

May you feel the upwelling of expectation, may hope cover the lining of your soul, let joy build to bursting point so that His love can explode over humanity with a force that makes salvation the only outcome and His whisper a spiritual indwelling that brings blessings and Love in His name.

Advent – A season that promises so much. A pregnant promise!

The promise is seen today as it was then; surrounded by darkness yet lit from a source of unfathomable power and even so there are creatures waiting to suck the life blood from God’s creation.

As we look around us in nature and at the world at large, the searched for promise lies hidden in the wombs of our wilderness. It takes a whisper from above to reveal His hidden Glories all around us and a reminder that time cannot be hurried. All will be revealed in due course.

Our focus needs to be on Him and His promise. The call to wait the full term is whispered from on high and we would do well to heed His call.

Patience dear souls, the birth pains are coming, and then:- And then we should be prepared to exalt Him! Oh, how our arms ache to be raised in worship.
