Fridayfootprints – Friday 22nd September 2023

The veins of faith flow towards the heart of holiness.

From the capillaries of Christianity to the arteries of salvation, our baptism through Him and in Him was initiated at the birth of creation.

It is the blood of Christ’s Passion that courses through our veins as pathways to the centre of holiness.

To become still in His presence and to feel Him around us is to be able to hear His whispers in the sounds of air as it moves surrounding us in a comforting aura of mysticism. If we can see the smallest detail of His making, then we should be able to feel Him as He caresses us with His presence.

It is when we become still enough to hear Him and to feel Him, then we can start to feel His blood within us. It is this blood that feeds not only our heart but also our soul.

And when we soul search for Him at the heart of creation, then His holiness is part of us, and our blood is His and His blood is ours!

Hallelujah. Amen!

Fridayfootprints – Friday 3rd March 2023

Through the last drop of our baptism, we slowly let slip the remaining petals of our lives until we lie naked before the Lord.

Lent is the autumn season of our faith.

A time that we strip, petal for petal, the last vestiges of our presence before Him. And as each petal falls over the days of this season, we pause …. to reflect in humility at the Grace of God and the peace we receive through our reflection and understanding.

It is a painful process to strip our ego and the aspirations that we have built up from the core of what we have become. Yet, there is a freeing of the soul as the seed of our faith starts to be revealed.

And in our nakedness and vulnerability, we glorify Him. We welcome His whispers to our wilderness as a time to reflect and grow until we can blossom and seed once more.

Praise Him!

Sip from His cup, break bread and eat.

This is our communion. Not a once-in-a-while event, but communion with Him. Fellowship! Communication at its most intimate level.

This is a life-long journey that we take with our Risen Lord. An adventure through the lushest gardens and driest deserts, but we do it with Him. Communion becomes our permanent picnic basket that we take along for sustenance. Something we can rely on, something we can take out and spread on the blanket of our lives.

Here we take the bread and break it, laying out the pieces of our body that suffer with Him. We take the wine, pour it, savouring the taste of Him. Its freshness and sweetness blend into the aroma that drips from our lips in communion with the Spirit of Him. Drop by drop His whispers wash through us in a baptism of spiritual connection that wets the driest throat.

Lord; may the fellowship of our communion be a bond that we share each moment of our lives as we walk on the path you have set for us.

Words that cascade from the font of our baptism.

Words, that are the soul food in the timeframe of our existence, written and spoken for centuries, formed out of creation have become the prayers for mankind, because of man.

We need to speak these words as they are the testimony to the presence of the one true God.

The Holy Spirit resides in these words as they overflow from His chalice. And in the sound of each drop as it falls, is the echo of His whispers that bounce through the halls of our consciousness and constitute the building blocks of our faith.

Wash us in your droplets Lord, that we may collect the runoff from your Grace. In prayer we cup our hands to carry your anointing to the world and with the words of your spiritual blessing we go forth to those that thirst that we may bring your ‘Living Water’ to the deserts of the wilderness.

In each drop is the perfect reflection of your Glory and we carry it in awe of your patience with us.

Amen

There is a darkness over the world that shades the waters of our baptism!

Not a dusk or a fading sunset, but a blackness that overshadows everything in its path.

When we hear of ‘Black Holes’ in space, perhaps this is where humanity now finds itself. The bitterness and hatred that has infected society has its roots in power and greed. And these have bred the characteristics of self-righteousness, egotism and judgementalism.

Daily we draw closer to our ‘Atlas Shrugged’ event!

Be it through war, corruption or by just being idle spectators; a vacuum exists that sucks the goodness from creation. And as it circles the earth, so it speeds up and expands drawing all into its midst!

To bring back the light we must shut the portal that pours its shadows out over the world until once more the depths of humanity’s depravity can be overwhelmed by His light.

Be His light in the wilderness. Shine as you have never shone before.

As the last remaining rose petals fade and fall – “It is finished ..” comes to mind. The completion of a task ordained by God.

But, the ‘It is finished’, is never the end.

Rather, a new beginning beckons, born out of the reflections revealed in the droplets of our glistening baptism.

Through salvation there is no end. Just another chance to listen closer to His whispers in the wilderness. An opportunity to delve deeper into the core of our world and to overcome.

For every ‘It is finished’ we move one step at a time away from earthly pain and closer to His ‘Heaven is at Hand’. By being able to reach out and touch His whisper we are grounded in the beauty that he creates around us and the human frailty of moral structure fades into a darkened background.

Each day we are required to focus anew on an ‘It is Finished’ (today’s work is done). Tomorrow awaits and the excitement builds as we hold our breath anxious to see what He has prepared for us.

With each ‘It is finished’, I am born again through the power of His Spirit riding on the breath of His Grace. Amen

Deserts – parched and baked dry, yet even in this environment – life exists.

Not only that. In its own way it thrives, drinking in moisture gathered from the mists rolling in. Specially adapted hairs catch the faintest sign of life-giving sustenance, and through this, they in turn flower and provide the barren landscape with a varied plant life able to stay alive under the most adverse conditions.

When we find ourselves in a spiritual desert, we must raise our arms high and welcome His breath into our lives. These are our hairs! Our extended surface area that we need to gather all He has to offer. On the darkest of days when our souls have shrivelled into dry parchment and the words are bleached out by the sun, the moisture of His breath is the salvation that only He can offer. But to receive it we should stand tall. Raise every part of our being into the sky to catch the faintest of His whispers and let it condensate gather on our sacrificial bodily stance.

This wilderness is our desert not His, but the wind is His whisper not ours, and the mist we receive are our baptism of salvation that will produce the most beautiful blossoms to glorify the environment He has placed us in.

#fridayfootprints – Friday 12th November 2021

When the darkness threatens to overwhelm us and the waters of our baptism have been reduced to the faintest of mists – There is still light.

In the empty hallways of our grieving souls – a light still shines.

When pain silences all sound around us – light still exists in the faintest of His whispers.

In any teardrop that runs down our cheek – there is still a reflection of the simplest form of light; the soul.

Somewhere, somehow, we have to find that light and hold on to it with all our remaining strength. And when we feel that our grip is about to slip, we should recall one sentence of our baptism of faith.

“I trust in the Lord and I believe.” The two are inextricably linked. We cannot do one without the other. This is not an inconvenience but a fundamental concept of our initiation into the realm of God. When All we can see is darkness, we know that His Light exists. And if we know that His Light exists then we trust that He will lead us from the darkness walking by our side every inch of the way.

And then when the shadows start to lengthen behind us as we draw closer to Him, His light will start to reflect onto those brought in fellowship with us. Amen. John 1:1 – 14.

#fridayfootprints – Friday 13th August 2021

Winter’s tears mourn the dying days as its season draws to a close just as spring-sprung diamonds line the edges of a rejuvenated faith in a creation that promises a baptism in His name.

Such are the whispers that glisten in His light.

Droplets that moisten the machinery of our belief and serve to lubricate the workings of our relationship with God, sawn by the fine-toothed edge that cuts to the core of who we are.

As we allow our spiritual self to journey amongst the whispers in God’s Garden so we brush against the life giving dew and we are washed clean of the dust and grime that weigh us down and so sanitized, we renew our commitment and focus to producing quality blooms fit to grace the vases in heaven.

#fridayfootprints – Friday 9th July 2021

The glowing embers of our humanity are deeply embedded in the belief system that we carry with us on our journey through our wilderness.

For some, this belief system consists of a recipe made up of ingredients drawn from how we interact with the world we see around us and the world that we feel in our imaginative core.

The closer we come to experiencing creation the more these embers get fanned into glowing coals until they are hot enough to burst into flame with the slightest whisper.

His whisper!

When we can open our eyes and hearts to more than just our own existence and start to explore a journey of the soul down the river of our baptism then the fire of the Holy Spirit that has lain dormant is coaxed into an eternal wildfire of whispers in His wilderness.

It is then that we fulfil our calling to fan the embers of faith in the wilderness’  that we discover around us and the souls that inhabit them.
